Two GPoS endorsed Seattle Public Schools levies rolled to victory. GPoS phoned its membership to remind everyone to get out and vote, and vote yes. Sarah Luthens set up the logistics of the phone bank. Some members were active in the Schools First campaign. Thanks to everyone who helped make this landslide victory happen, and thanks to our wonderful school board members, Brita and Sally, for restoring the public´s confidence in the school district!
I-297, the Hanford nuclear waste cleanup initiative, has been certified as having sufficient signatures. Since the initiative is an initiative to the legislature, the legislature can pass it without it going to the ballot. The legislature can also put an alternative proposal against it on the ballot. If neither happens, I-297 simply goes on the ballot this November. I-297 was a reaction to the Bush Administration´s attempt to make Hanford a National Radioactive Waste Dump. I-297 says that before more waste is allowed in the site´s current pollution problems have to be cleaned up. Greens from all over the state were involved in the signature drive. Now we have to be prepared for nuclear industry propaganda that says being a nuke dump is good for our economy. To get involved, please visit www.HeartofAmericaNorthwest.org.
