Environment

  • Endorsed No logging in Cedar River Watershed (position paper was developed)
  • Endorsed HR 2789 National Forest Protection and Restoration Act (intended to stop logging in National Forests and BLM lands and redirect current subsidies into worker retraining) ­ July 98
  • Endorsed Vine Street Project (intended to narrow Vine Street, install landscaping, and enhance stormwater management) ­ July 98
  • Voted to support NO on I-696 (commercial fishing nets) position ­ September 99
  • Supported reduced pesticide use reduction and warning before use in Seattle School District (supported letter with Washington Toxics Coalition to warn teachers and parents prior to pesticide application, and to reduce pesticide use on District property)
  • Opposed spraying of Btk for gypsy moths in Ballard/Magnolia ­ March 00

Transportation

  • Endorsed NO on Ref. 49 (something about transportation)
  • Endorsed NO on I-695 (flat $30 car licensing tax by voter approval) ­ September 99
  • Opposed public funding of private parking garages ­ March 00
  • Passed resolution pertaining to Seattle Monorail plan allowing Transportation Working Group to speak on behalf of the GPoS within the limits set forth in its Transportation Position Paper. This position paper advocates supporting alternative means of transportation ­ May 00

Health Care

  • Endorsed I-692 (allow doctors to prescribe medical marijuana without prosecution against either doctor or patient) ­ July 98
  • Opposed I-694 (the initiative would ban abortions during the process of birth, and was written in a way that would effectively ban all abortions) ­ July 98
  • Endorsed I-725 Healthcare 2000 ­ March 00, but in April 00 reached a new consensus that additional study of the issue was necessary before sharing mailing lists and actively working on the issue.
  • Endorsed I-262 which would create a health care financing commission to propose a unified health services financing system for all Washington residents. ­ April 02

Electoral Process

  • Endorsed a binding None Of The Above (NOTA) initiative in 1997. A revised non-binding Preference NOTA was brought to the Coordinating Council, but consensus was not reached to bring the Preference NOTA to the general membership for endorsement, discussion tabled ­ Feb 98

  • CC approved the TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) Resolution ­ April 02
  • EC endorsed the Rally for Immigrant Rights ­ April 02
  • EC endorsed the Fair Trade Coffee Day ­ April 02
  • EC agreed to sign on to a letter of inquiry to the Washington State Congressional Delegation regarding the treatment of immigrant workers at SEA-TAC Airport, in particular addressing recent INS raids. ­ May 02
